Joint meeting of the
Pan African Conference on Crystallography - PCCr2
and
The African Light Source - AfLS2

Workshop Registration

There will be various workshops held at the joint meeting of the Pan African Conference on Crystallography (PCCr2) and The African light source (AfLS2). These workshops will provide participants an opportunity to gain hands-on experience on the various areas that will be covered under crystallogrpahy, material analysis and characterization. Kindly note that all fields marked * are required fields and your registration will not be submitted if any of these fields are left blank.

BioStruct Africa Workshop

BioStruct-Africa will be conducting a hands-on training workshop in Structural Biology at the 2nd Pan African Conference on Crystallography (PCCr2) to be held at one of BioStruct-Africa's partner, The University of Ghana from 28th January 2019 to 2nd February 2019. We will kick-off the workshop with an inspirational lecture on the history of crystallography from our keynote speaker Sir Tom L. Blundell (Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge). Tom will describe some of the pioneers of Crystallography- Bernal, Hodgkin, Perutz in the 30s historically, then his experiences with Dorothy Hodgkin in 60s and writing the book "Protein Crystallography" in the early 70s and impacts over the past five decades. We will then conduct crystallisation experiments and learn how to harvest and cryoprotect crystals. Finally, we will collect diffraction data by remotely controlling two MX beamlines: Diamond Light Source Ltd (DLS) in the UK and the Australian Synchrotron. Hands-on training in Structural Biology should prove useful in realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
